Pilgrim’s UK has helped to provide 650,000 meal equivalents to families across the UK over the past twelve months.
Pilgrim’s UK has diverted produce from across its 15 sites to help those in vulnerable circumstances through partnerships with community groups including The Company Shop, the UK’s leading redistributor of surplus food and household products, and FareShare, the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors.
The products are made available to purchase at a heavily discounted price for emergency services and food industry workers, and for those in vulnerable circumstances through its Community Shop.
The initiative forms part of the business’ efforts to support local communities while also preventing good quality produce from going to waste.
Matt Dight, head of sustainability at Pilgrim’s UK, said: “Working with groups like FareShare and The Company Shop means that we can redistribute quality food to those who need it most and supports our aim of being industry leaders in avoiding food waste. We’re proud of the number of meals we’ve been able to provide over the past twelve months and will continue to do more to support our local communities.”
