Sites and colleagues across the business have been marking World Safety and Health at Work Day (28 April) this week with engaging and educational activities – helping introduce our new characters and bringing to life our Ready Steady Safe message.
Sites took part in a number of different and unique ways, including:
– Stands with information about our new mascots and other H&S initiatives
– Presentation and posters around our new characters
– Fun activities centred around safety- word search, quiz, treasure hunt and competitions involving our new mascots
– STAR Card sessions to raise importance of hazard spotting and workplace observations
– High Viz jackets which highlighted Ready Steady Safe
– Mental health workshops with the Farming Community Network
– Healthy eating options at canteens at discounted rates
– Free fruit to encourage colleagues getting their five a day
– Support to access mental health resources
– Fitness activities
Rachel Baldwin, VP HR, has been leading on the weeks activities and said: “I am very proud of our teams across the business who have really gone all out this week. From healthy food offers, fitness activities, educational sessions and so much more. It was also great to see a push on Ready Steady Safe as an ethos and videos showcasing our new characters and what they stand for.
“But this week is about the start of our H&S push and embedding a culture across the business to drive accidents down. We are all responsible for H&S, not just this week but every day and beyond.”
World Safety and Health at Work Day promotes the prevention of occupational accidents globally. It is an awareness-raising campaign intended to focus international attention on how promoting and creating a safety and health culture can help reduce the number of work-related injuries.
Rachel added: “I am excited about launching Ready Steady Safe with the support of our new mascots. However, at the core of all of this is you – our people. It is up to us all to take collective responsibility around our actions, challenging and educating one another with discussions and positive reinforcement. I am looking forward to the next few months and seeing our hard work pay off. Finally, I want thank you all for your efforts this week and we look forward to updating and sharing more material in the coming weeks and months.”
